Last week or so I was trying to get my printer to work. In the process I kind of busted the back of the board trying to pull out something you don't pull out. So, I had to get it fixed. The computer geek installed a card, and along with that fine tuned it or something. Meanwhile he uninstalled the antivirus/firewall program I have been using for about six years and installed all kinds of other stuff. Meanwhile my puter is still slow as molasses and freezes up. No, I have plenty of memory, that isn't the problem.
Any suggestions?? I don't know if I should uninstall, or keep this stuff or not! Malwarebites Anti-malware, Spybot Search & Destroy, the Free AVG 8.5, and something else I can't find he put in my favorites to clean the registry for free, from Windows. Is all this stuff here really necessary, and is this what is making it slow and freezing up??

I have Malewarebites and AVG on one of my puters, and Spybot and Anvir on another. I'haven't had probs with them, but I know people who have. They are freeware, and can easily be downloaded again from Cnet or download.com. You could delete them and re-install one at a time to see if you run any faster. CCleaner is another free one that people use, but I don't like it, it slows me way down. Glad to see you're still here. I haven't been here in a while, seems like things are not very busy. We are just hanging on by a frayed thread.

ok here is my 2 cents of stupidy.. yes , anything running in the background on your compute ,will slow it down.. all these spy- antivirus- fire walls are running all the time.it's like having a lot of programs open at 1 time..forgive this ,, but unless you open e-mail you don't know or go to nasty web sites. you about don't need extra virus protection.. if your running windows XP .you already have a GOOD fire wall and pretty much virus protection.. embarq highspeed gives you free virus protection.. i run my computer 1 year with nothing but windows update protection.. other than one little virus once,, i had no trouble.. if your internet server doesn't offer a free v.p., i'd use my windows firewall with a $40 dollar norton.. I know you know to click on tools,,, click on internet options ,,delete cookies ,temp. internet files... plus go to all programs click acessories,,,system tools ,,click disc cleanup, follow instructions,, after this go to all programs ,,acessories,,system tools,,,defragment hardrive,,, defragment will take several hours.. after this go to lower right next to clock,,remove programs you don't use from toolbar.. open them from all programs when needed.. 1 to 2 gigs of ram helps a lot..

Strange enough, it's working fine today. I think I'm going to keep what this guy added for awhile, see how it goes, and hopefully just get familiar with these programs, I hate to jump too fast unnecessarily. A couple of times Yahoo email won't load, like it's stuck or something, and this has happened with both IE and Firefox, but like I said, today, fine.I'm spoiled, I like to move around FAST, I don't have time to mess around waiting for something to open! Lol, no SixPack, no porno, but I do go to a LOT of new sites daily. No, I don't open emails either from those I don't know. Any time I have a question about something, how to do, I jump on line. I guess I'll wait a few days or so, see how it goes. Maybe it is slow or dragging because one of those virus programs is scanning, I haven't had time to learn all there is to know about them on a need to know basis, yet. I was just comfy with my Stop Sign, and didn't appreciate him deleting it. Heck, I don't even have to pay for it any more, till 2020! I remember Wes from GL argued that is was spyware, same as this guy, may BE. I just hate to delete these and go back, and regret it. Yes I can re-download, just a pain in the neck.

If I have any more trouble I probably will delete, and try them one at a time. I guess I am just a creature of habit, and don't like change, lol ;D Stop by and visit more often! And hope business continues for you. It's tough, hopefully it will pick up before it's too late for most of us.

It's still messed up. I can't believe this stranger made the changes he did on my puter! Grrr! How's that for gossip, hehe! I'm too pizzed to call him back here, and I'll be damned if I would pay anything more. Hoping to get ahold of my stepson for advice here . My Real Player is messed up, it says I need new hardware that is missing or something..t won't play new CDs, but still plays other things already installed. That is confusing to me. My IE toolbar is totally different, what happened to my Yahoo email?? He remove a virus protection/firewall I have been using for about six or so yrs to download all this different stuff, and I don't dare delete anything not knowing if it will affect something else I am using. And my printer still isn't working! I don't know if this has any connection to the CDs not playing, or what. I want my money back!

;D do a yahoo toolbar search ... then download a new yahoo tool bar.. don't be afraid to punch buttons on your puter.. here is the cure . bbelieve me or not.... THIS WILL WORK
find system restore and go back to a date before this guy messed with your puter.... click on this restore date ... i promise your compute will be fine again!!!!!

i can'ttttttttt hearrrrrrrrrrrr youuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol. I just got it "fixed' this morning..my stepson called to find out what it was doing. I did a test print for him to know what the machine was doing, and it was working just fine! I told him he just has the touch, haha! I still don't understand what happened, but he said the printer automatically does something, which is why it started working. And said he is a phone call away! Then I told him about Real Player, the CD wouldn't play, said I needed to download some drive. I was reading to him what is was saying, and he asks me, Do you have a DVD in your computer?? No...Lol, no wonder it wasn't working! It didn't even dawn on me, but anyway, THAT part is working fine too! I told him the guy took out my beloved "Stop Sign" antivirus, he asked me if I was having any problems with these programs the guy installed. No....said to leave it! I have to agree at this point. I was just comfortable with this other system, and can always go back if need be. I'm familiar with System Restore, it's been a lifesaver many times. This computer guy had said something about it, about not using it. I told that to my stepson, he said it was because yes, it WOULD wipe out what that guy did. Glad I didn't now. Odd though, I brought up the System Restore to him, wanting to make a new Restore point, which is how that conversation came up. He was telling me I don't need to even do That, which I thought was odd, still don't have a clue why. But all is good here, and I'm a happy camper, hehe! Thanks for the advise too, even though I don't need to go that route at this time.

~ lol ~ You may be right! So what are you doing now, with your truck (s) parked?? Did the Mrs go with you on road trips? I've just about gotten to the point I despise this business, so dog eat dog Boy, times sure have changed.
